A small place for campervans to stop and stay
Pull off the highway, park on the flat, light the brazier and stay the night. Certified self-contained campervans welcome at any hour — ideally between 10am and 10pm.
$10 per night, per van
Staying here
Drive in, pay, park up
Three steps, and none of them involve waiting for anybody. There is no office, and no check-in time — just a sign at the entrance telling you the same things this page does.
It is not freedom camping: it is a small, paid stop on private land, off the highway and well back from the traffic.
-
Drive in
Turn off State Highway 1 at Topuni into Oruawharo Road and follow the signs — first property on the left after the railway line.
Come in whenever you get here. Late is fine.
-
Pay $10
Transfer $10 into the account on the sign — the same one printed below. One van, for one overnight stay, no extra charge for a second person.
Put your vehicle registration in the reference so we know who is here.
-
Park up
Pull into one of the marked areas: firm gravel or grass depending on the time of year. Both are flat.
Then it is yours for the night — seating outside, and the brazier if you want it.
Paying
Internet banking, on the spot
$10 a night, transferred straight into our account when you arrive.
If you are staying more than one night, send $10 for each night you will be staying.

What’s here
Not much, and that is rather the point
A flat place to park, somewhere to sit outside and a fire to sit around. Brace yourself when the trains go past, but close enough to the highway that you are back on it in a minute.
-
Flat, firm parking
Marked areas on gravel that stay solid right through winter, and grass to spread out on over summer.
-
Outdoor seating
Feel free to setup your outdoor table and chairs, or even your BBQ, on the grass.
-
Fire brazier
Wood is supplied. Light it, sit around it, and put it out before you turn in.
-
Safe and secure
Off the highway and well back from the traffic, on private land where others are around.
-
Just off SH1
On State Highway 1 between Wellsford and Kaiwaka, smack bang in the middle of Auckland and Whangārei — roughly an hour’s drive from either, and a minute back on the highway.
Staying a day or two? Mangawhai, Te Ārai and Lake Tomarata are all within about half an hour — things to do nearby.
-
Somewhere to sit outside. -
Bush-covered hills all around.

Self-contained campervans only
At this stage we can only take certified self-contained (CSC) vehicles. There are no toilets or showers on site, so your van needs to carry its own.
It means we cannot host tents, cars, or vans, however short the stay, if they are not self-contained, at this time.
“We are a small place to stop and stay with your self-contained campervan.”
